Wine Review: This opaque and midnight blue colored Syrah from Paso Robles opens with a fragrant and attractive ripe blackberry bouquet with a hint of new leather in the background. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, nicely balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is a delicious blueberry and raspberry blend with notes of black pepper. There were also hints of mild old oak and black currant mixed in as well. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins and lingering flavors are nicely prolonged. This wine would pair nicely with a grilled New York Strip with Bearnaise sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The Syrah from this vineyard grows on steep, limestone-rich hillsides and arrives at the winery very ripe yet balanced, yielding a deeply colored wine (darkest in the cellar) with distinctive aromas and flavors of blueberries and raspberries. We aged the wine in mostly new French oak, so there is a nice layer of vanilla, clove, and toasty notes as well. This is a very full-bodied wine that will benefit from more aging in the bottle. I suggest that you drink this over the next 3-7 years.
