Wine Review: This red blend from Andrew Murray is fantastic. It is opaque and very dark purple colored. It opens with a mild and attractive black raspberry bouquet with a hint of boysenberry. On the palate, this wine is very smooth, balanced, and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a really tasty mild blackberry with notes of black currant and black raspberry. I also detected some black pepper and very nice gentle oak in the background. The finish is dry and its spicy fruit flavors linger nicely. The tannins are moderate to mild and certainly do not get in the way. This wine is a perfect drinking wine for the winter and it definitely calls for a second glass. It will goes well with comfort foods like shepherd's pie. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2010 Esperance was sourced and crafted identically to our last few vintages. We sourced all of the Grenache Noir for this vintage from the Terra Bella Vineyard. Grenache is the backbone of this wine, with 25% Syrah added from the cooler Santa Ynez Valley, to add spice notes and tannins to the very rich and fruit forward Grenache. We finished the blend off with Mourvedre that is grown on very steep hillsides in Paso Robles. Mourvedre lends a floral, lifted note to the wine.
