Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Syrah based blend from Ancient Peaks in Paso Robles opens with a blueberry and dark chocolate bouquet with hints of black cherry, violets, and moist pipe tobacco. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round, and approachable. The flavor profile is a gentle black cherry and dark chocolate blend with notes of black raspberry. I also detected some hints of Guatemalan black coffee and blueberry in the after taste. The finish is dry, and its flavors, integrated acidity, and gentle tannins drift away nicely. I would pair this very food friendly, versatile, and well-priced red blend with shepherd's pie. Winemaker Notes: The 2021 Renegade presents complex aromas of violets, blue fruits, and pomegranate with notes of graphite, cinnamon, and toasted oak.
