Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Alpha Omega tied for first place in our recent Big Blind tasting of high end reds. It opens with a classic mild black currant and black cherry bouquet with hints of cedar. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and elegant. The flavor profile is a tasty black cherry with notes of black currant and coffee. We also detected hints of nicely integrated light oak and a touch of minerality. The finish is dry and its fine tannins drift away nicely. The panel suggested that this very nice Cab would be a perfect match for filet mignon with bearnaise sauce. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: For the first time in ERA’s history, the 2011 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. This is because 2011 was the coldest vintage in 25 years, yielding wines with lower alcohol and higher acidity. In order to maintain ripeness, concentration and complexity, we blended Cabernet Sauvignon from all of our Single Vineyards (Beckstoffer To Kalon, Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper, Stagecoach & Lyons) into ERA 2011. This wine represents and amazing balance and has a great potential for aging.
