Wine Review: This Gran Reserva red from Spain is special and will appeal to readers who enjoy aged, Old World styled wine. It is opaque and very dark ruby colored. It opens with a saddle leather and musty black currant like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, smooth and unique. The flavor profile is an old oak and leather influenced spicy plum with notes of thyme and black pepper. The finish is rather dry and its very dusty oak tannins are very sticky and last for quite some time. This very well made wine is not for everyone. Those that love this style of wine will love it. It calls out for some beef bourguignon, so be sure to pair them up. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The first Janus since 1995. From a superripe vintage, Alejandro Fernandez achieved great concentration through harvest precision. An explosion of ripe fruit and spice/leather aromas, powerfully mouthfilling yet soft and fresh in the long and consistent finish. A classic Pesquera.
