Wine Review: This medium ruby colored Mencia from Adega O Casal is classically flavored. It opens with a scorched earth, black raspberry, and black plum bouquet with hints of smoked meat. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The flavor profile is tart cherry and pomegranate blend with notes of brambly berries, cedar and liquid smoke. We also detected hints of banana, black licorice, black pepper, and loam. The finish is dry, and its big boy tannins stick around for quite a while. We would pair this good value rustic styled Mencia with a marinated grilled hanger steak. Enjoy – Ken & Dave

Winemaker Notes: Unoaked. Deep purple color, aromas of ripe red fruit and minerals. Inherent complexity. Not in the slightest a light wine, perhaps just the opposite. The finish is long and captivating.
