Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Dolcetto from California opens with a fragrant strawberry and red raspberry bouquet with a hint of pomegranate and smoky oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and a bit savory. The flavor profile reminds me a bit of a South African Pinotage. It displays a mild mineral infused smoky oak and black cherry blend. I also detected hints of red plum, strawberry rhubarb and craisin towards the end. The finish is dry and is dusty tannins expands and linger for quite some time. I would decant this Dolcetto and serve it with a wild boar ragu over bow-tie pasta. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The sensuous Italianate nature of this varietal is prominent in our 2012 vintage. Aromas of dusty red fruit and baked cherry pie mingle with hints of blueberry and an earthy mineral essence. Juicy flavors of blackberry, blueberry, and dark cherry are edged with gentle tannins and mocha-laced oak. Medium bodied and bone dry, the wine offers delicious traces of ripe plum, eucalyptus, and coffee in the finish. Try pairing this expressive Dolcetto with shredded duck confit sliders, farfalle with creamy wild mushroom sauce, or a plate of hard aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino Romano.
