Wine Review: This pitch black colored Syrah from Acorn opens with a blueberry and blackberry bouquet with a hint of oak. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, slightly acidic and round. The flavor profile is a blueberry and blackberry jam blend with hints of dark chocolate and oak. The finish is rather dry and its very dusty tannins stick around for quite some time. This sturdy Syrah needs food with plenty of fat. I would decant it and serve it with braised short ribs. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: A complex, layered nose offers an enticing introduction to this elegant and classic Syrah. Ripe blackberry and black pepper aromas and flavors are laced with a creamy mocha essence, as hints of cedar, tobacco, and violets add depth and dimension. Blueberry, dried herbs, spice, and a trace of cocoa and leather enhance the palate, as do the supple tannins and integrated oak. Delicious now, this wine will continue to evolve with additional bottle aging. Try pairing it with Moroccan lamb stew with olives, or a spicy roasted eggplant salad.
