Wine Review: This opaque and dark purple colored Petite Sirah was the winner of our recent blind tasting. It opens with an inviting blueberry bouquet with hints of blackberry and truffles. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, well balanced, very smooth and elegant. The flavor profile is a delicious blueberry with hints of chocolate and oak. The finish is dry and its well managed tannins drift along nicely. The panel suggested pairing this terrific Petite Sirah with a filet mignon, garlic mashed, and beets from Grill 23. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: 2008 was a great vintage for Aaron, thanks to excellent summer weather, moderate yields, and early ripening. A total of four vineyards made it into this years blend, 3 from the Westside and 1 from the Eastside, although the blend percentage is about 50% Westside and 50% Eastside. Since I always put forth only the best for Aaron, several lots were cut and the resulting blend was only 12 barrels, making the 300 case production the smallest vintage in several years. A 3% splash of Syrah helped to fill out the mid-palate just a touch this year. As usual, a black bomb of fruit that is a touch riper than previous vintages, but still managing to avoid overripeness. Plum, black cherry, dark chocolate, espresso; just name something dark and its in there. Ultrarich and round, with the classically juicy, soft finish that I always strive for. Massive mouthfeel, velvet finish. Do your palate a favor and give it a wine to chew on once in a while. Go Big or go home.
