Wine Review: We have been saying for the last few years that we think Kanonkop makes some of the best Pinotage coming out of South Africa. They have done it again with the 2006 vintage. This years offering was very well received by the mini group that tasted it. It is very dark opaque ruby in color. It opens with a spicy oak infused raspberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, very nicely balanced, and elegant for a Pinotage. It displays tasty spicy black cherry flavors with just the right amount of integrated oak. The finish is quite dry and very nicely prolonged. This wine would be a perfect complement to beef bourguignon. If you want to spoil yourself and try a new varietal, give this Pinotage a try. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: This benchmark South African Pinotage is a true Cape Classic! Alluringly complex and distinctive, it boasts juicy layers of dark berries, ripe banana and cassis intertwined with smoky, minerally undercurrents.
