Wine Review: This 100% Mourvedre from down under is a stunner! This dark ruby wine opens with a very nice raspberry like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, very well balanced, and smooth with delicious light raspberry flavors. The finish is dry, with light tannins that linger slightly. This is a terrific Mourvedre! If you can find this wine, impress your friends or your boss the next time you see this wine on the wine list. It’s a wonderful wine and it would be an excellent pairing with prime rib or beef bourguignon. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Dean Hewitson sources the fruit for this unique wine from a block of Mourvedre vines planted in the “Old Garden” vineyard back in 1853. Yes, vines that are over 150 years old. They produce some of the most intensely flavored yet elegant fruit characters you will ever taste in a red wine. Red and black fruits are in abundance, with a multiplicity of other flavors. The wine is lush and mouthfilling, yet has a wonderful elegance to it. Drinking beautifully now, but will only get better over the next decade, if you can wait that long.
