Wine Review: As many of you readers know, I am a big fan of Petite Sirah. This offering from EOS is one of the more impressive options we have tried recently. This opaque dark purple wine opens with a very attractive plum bouquet with hints of spicy berries. On the palate, this wine is very well balanced, smooth, and had extremely juicy plum flavors with dark chocolate and spicy notes as well. The finish is quite dry with well managed tannins that travel on for a very long time. This is quite approachable and ready for a young Petite Sirah. Pair it with a grilled steak and enjoy! Ken
Winemaker Notes: As seen with other varietals, the 2005 vintage produced wines with great depth of flavor and color. The Petite Sirah was no different. Even though Petite Sirah is never lacking in color, it shows a richness of dark jammy fruit that is balanced well with the grape tannin. The lifting effect of the oak balances rather than covering this fruit. This has turned out to be one of winemaker’s favorite vintages of Petite Sirah. Aromas of smoky oak with hints of molasses and blueberry waft from the glass with layers of blackberry and chocolate. The richness of the dark berries and baker’s chocolate explode into the mouth while the velvety dark textures of the molasses glide over the palate. An extended finish of spice lingers with hints of smoke.
