Wine Review: When I eat Italian foods, I prefer a red wine with no hard edges and that can soften a red sauce’s acidity. I found everything I wanted in this entry level wine from Ornellaia. This very dark opaque purple wine opens with a mild black cherry like bouquet. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied, smooth, well balanced, and soft. The flavors are tasty black cherry with a light touch of oak. The finish is dry and slightly extended. As I mentioned this wine is extremely easy to drink and very food friendly. It paired nicely with my veal parmigiana at GianMarco’s in Birmingham, AL. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Elegant and enjoyable, the 2005 vintage is characterised by ample fruity, slightly spicy notes. Round and full in the mouth, it combines the Mediterranean generosity of Sangiovese with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon and the softer tones of Merlot, creating an extremely pleasant wine.
