Wine Review: This very dark ruby Spanish wine opens with a funky old cedar wood dominated bouquet with hints of cherry. On the palate, this medium bodied wine is smooth, well balanced, very juicy, with mouthwatering black cherry flavors and a touch of cedar on the back palate. The finish is quite dry and its tannins are manageable as they fade away with time. If you blind tasted this wine you could mistake it for a Very Good American Zinfandel. We would decant or swill this wine to shake off the early musty aromas and then we would enjoy it with veal parmigianna or lasagna. Cheers - Ken
Winemaker Notes: A great vintage with excellent potential and complexity. Serious wine—give it air! Archetypical Rioja Alta composition: 85% Tempranillo, 5% Mazuelo, 5% Graciano and 5% Garnacha, aged 14 months in American oak. An elegant, updated version of the traditional Rioja style.
