Wine Review: I recently attended a vertical tasting of Palmes d’Or at Radius in Boston. Winemaker Jean-Pierre Vincent was nice enough to share many of his older vintages with us. We tried various vintages from 1985 to 1998. The 1996 vintage was by far my favorite. This white gold champagne opens with a very mild light citrus like bouquet. On the palate, this Champagne is smooth, slightly creamy, structured and well balanced. It had everything. The flavor profile was a very appealing ripe green apple. The finish is dry, refreshing, and has excellent length. This champagne is very food friendly and versatile. It would pair nicely with bay scallops. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Color: a golden hue, with fine and delicate bubbles. Nose: its complex aromas are dominated by hints of citrus fruit and pastry, underscored by subtle notes of hawthorn and lemon peel. Palate: crisp entry and a lovely length.
