Wine Review: If you are looking for a good bargain Sauvignon Blanc from California, this offering from Gainey made a Very Good impression on me. This light yellow wine opens with a very light pear and fresh linen like bouquet. On the palate, this medium bodied wine is nicely balanced, has some crispiness, and displays zesty lime like flavors with a touch of green apple. The finish is dry, lingers slightly and is quite refreshing. Serve this wine cool (not cold) as a very good pool option that would go great with sharp cheddar cheese and stone wheat crackers. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Cool, elongated growing seasons like 2006 tend to bring out the best in white wines, because the grapes ripen slowly and evenly, developing concentrated varietal flavors while retaining crisp acidity. Such is the case with our 2006 Sauvignon Blanc, which boasts wonderfully fresh, mineral-tinged aromas of lime, pomelo, and honeydew melon, complemented by subtle vanilla and cut-grass scents. On the streamlined palate, creamy pineapple, melon, lemon zest and mineral flavors predominate, with a crisp, mouthwatering finish inviting a second - and third - sip. Enjoy this vibrant, varietally distinctive Sauvignon Blanc over the next 1-2 years with lighter seafood and poultry dishes as well as vegetarian entrees, salads and goat cheese.
