Wine Review: This wine was one of two notable Duckhorn pours that we enjoyed at a recent Smith & Wollensky Wine Week lunch. This opaque dark ruby wine opens with a rich cherry like bouquet with hints of dark chocolate. On the palate, this full bodied wine is smooth, concentrated, and has dense black cherry flavors with hints of cool menthol. The finish is dry with slightly edgy tannins. I expect these will smooth out with some bottle age. Finally, this wine paired very well with a filet mignon sandwich. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2004 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a full-bodied wine with a very smooth entry, excellent balance between oak and fruit, spicy tannins, and a lingering finish. The aroma is dominated by layers of blueberry, fig, and blackberry, accented by violet, spice, and a hint of bell pepper. The flavors are ripe with cassis, raspberry jam, blackberry, toasted oak, and a touch of dried herbs on the finish.
