Wine Review: I recently attended a "Syrah/Shiraz" wine tasting @ the Boston Wine School. This value wine made by Grant Phelps at Viu Manent was well received. This rich inky purple wine opens with a funky, earthy, herbal thyme bouquet. On the palate, this medium bodied wine does not taste anything like it smells. It was creamy and well balanced. It has red current flavors with hints of crème brulee and menthol. The finish is dry, tannic, and short. This wine would pair well with very sharp cheese like parmesan.
Winemaker Notes: Deep purple in colour, on the nose this wine shows ample spice, plum and mocha with just a hint of eucalypt. In the mouth an attack of boysenberry, currant, fig and bittersweet chocolate gives way to ample yet voluptuous tannins leading to a long, elegant finish.
