Wine Review: Our Tasting Panel met recently to review some high end red wines in a blind tasting. This option from Pontet Canet was my favorite from the French entries. This dark ruby wine opens with a mild black cherry, tobacco, smoky bouquet with a touch of oak. On the palate, this medium bodied wine is well balanced, smooth, juicy, lacks complexity, and displays cherry flavors and some integrated oak. The finish is dry, has fine tannins, and lasting oak that is nicely prolonged. The panel felt this wine would pair nicely with pork tenderloin. Cheers - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Very deep, almost opaque robe. Very intense, spicy, complex, refined nose, in which mingle red and black berry aromas (blackberries, cherries and Morello cherries) alongside liquorice, coffee and vanilla notes. On the palate the attack is full, then the wine develops both length and flavour. The silky tannin finish bears the inimitable hallmark of a great Pauillac. The palate aromas are very long. It is truly a very great wine.
