Wine Review: This blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon is an homage to the current owner’s forefathers. This is the 107th vintage made by Seghesio Family Vineyards in Sonoma, which is no small feat these days. Omaggio is opaque in the center with a ruby rim, the Sangiovese and Cab make it difficult to place this as California but when it hits the palate there is no mistaking it. This wine is a great alternative to the basic Meritage or proprietary blends from Napa.
Winemaker Notes: "Omaggio’s continued evolution is owed to good farming. We know we need superior fruit to achieve our goal – create a synergistic union between Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese that expresses Home Ranch’s regional distinctiveness. With a keen focus on vine balance and ripeness, we are able to guide production toward leaving as little to chance as possible, yet still allowing Mother Nature to do most of the work. At harvest, each lot was macerated for a duration sufficient to extract the most desirable characteristics. Cabernet Sauvignon’s compelling cherry and cassis flavors, smooth, long tannins and mouth-coating appeal combine with Sangiovese’s slightly acidic verve to create Omaggio." Ted Seghesio
