Wine Review: This is what makes Sonoma, in particular, those from Alexander Valley, so interesting. Although it lacks that velvet texture that Napa Valley is known for, the Rodney Strong Alexander Cabernet is still worth your while. The nose of black pepper with hints of dark chocolate and cassis. The palate follows suit and has the nice mix of earthy, fruity, and spicy tones. With the smoky woods leading the way, this wine opens up to a mouth full of dark steeped berry fruits and baking spices. The finish is a bit raw as the tannins are firm, drying, and edgy. This Cab would be served best after being decanted or rested for 3+ years. - Nicolay
Winemaker Notes: A powerful Cabernet from the hillsides of Alexander Valley, this wine is lush with blackberries, dark plum and dark chocolate. The notes of dried herbs, black pepper and minerality reflect the terroir of the Alexander Valley. The soft, supple and mature tannins give this wine a strong backbone, while the 18 months of barrel aging have softened the wine enough to enjoy now. Pair this wine with braised short ribs, lamb shanks, beef ravioli or cellar for enjoyment over the next four to six years.
