Wine Review: Wow, this might be the best Robert Foley Merlot that I have covered. It certainly is the best Merlot I have recommended in quite sometime. It is very dark ruby colored and quite opaque colored. It opens with a fragrant and attractive bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied and extremely well balanced. The flavor profile is a delicious ripe blueberry with notes of spice, black pepper, and menthol. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are sticky and linger nicely. Our entire table really loved this wine. It would pair perfectly with a ribeye steak. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: I produced my first commercial Merlot in the 1976 vintage when it was about as well known as Charbono is today. After several years of trying to convince folks to give it a try, its popularity grew and eventually snowballed. Of course, Bordeaux producers have worked with this grape variety for many years and it is the noble variety of the Cabernet family on the right bank of that region. Our Howell Mountain vineyard is kicking in and blending that with the Calistoga fruit has produced a rich 100% Merlot blockbuster that will compete with any Cabernet!
