Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Cabernet Franc from Italy is very good. It opens with a fragrant and complex aroma blend of graphite, new leather, black olive and black cherry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, nicely balanced, soft and smooth. The flavor profile is a tasty black cherry and cedar blend with fine grained graphite blended in. I also detected notes of tart plum and hints of currants and black pepper. The finish is dry and savory with well-managed moderate tannins. This tasty Old-World Cab Franc would be ideal with hearty meals. I would serve it with beef bourguignon. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Russiz Superiore makes this wine from 100% Cabernet Franc, the second most planted red grape variety of Friuli–Venezia Giulia (after Merlot). Proximity to the Alps and the sea, which send cooling afternoon breezes over the vineyards after a warm day of sun, create the ideal situation for producing complex, well-structured wines that are very age worthy.
