Wine Review: This opaque and onyx colored Syrah from Gramercy opens with a very inviting blackberry jam like bouquet with hints of boysenberry. On the palate this wine is full bodied, juicy and jammy. The flavor profile is a gentle mineral infused blackberry and black raspberry blend with notes of black pepper sprinkled in. I also detected a touch of oak as well. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are nicely prolonged. This enjoyable Walla Walla Syrah would pair well with slow cooked beef brisket. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: We have some good news for the 2010 Walla Walla Syrah. It’s 95% Les Collines Vineyard. And there are almost 600 cases. In terms of winemaking, we didn't deviate all that much from previous years with the 2010 Walla Walla Syrah - stems, puncheons, neutral oak. This cuvee is a selection from different parts of the hill, each piece giving different characteristics. This wine is sort of a mix of the 2008 and 2009 wines. Powerful but elegant with a freshness we have not seen in Les Collines. It’s actually drinking great now, but we think this will be a long term wine.
