Wine Review: This has been one of the strongest showings from Gloria Ferrer that I have been exposed to. For those that prefer a sleeker and more refined style, this may not be for you. The 2013 Royal Cuvee is a Californian sparkler at its core. The wine opens with notes of baked apples, warm buttered toast, and toasted pecans. Once the mouth-coating bubbles subside the palate displays flavors of warm apple pie, roasted nuts, and baking spices. The acidity on the finish is much appreciated as it helps manage the abundance of sweeter flavors. The finish has a great length. Because of the richness found in this wine, I would recommend serving it with a Christmas ham or something similar. – Nicolay
Winemaker Notes: Aromas of light citrus and red apple with a touch of brioche in the background lead into an explosion of green and red apple flavors on the palate. The sparkling Cuvée has a creamy mouthfeel with notes of lemon curd that culminate with a lingering full finish. This the perfect accompaniment for seafood. Oysters on the half shell with a ginger mignonette or classic Maine lobster roll on toasted brioche are foolproof pairings. It also pairs well with triple cream cheeses.
