Wine Review: This dark purple and opaque colored Tannat from Uruguay is one to try, especially if you have never tried the grape. It opens with a blackberry and black olive bouquet with a hint of plum. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and nicely coats your mouth. The flavor profile is a flinty mineral influenced gentle cherry with notes of oak and Oolong tea and just a touch of plum towards the end. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are nicely prolonged. This is a well-made and tamed Tannat that is very food friendly. I would pair it with a classic Bolognese sauce serve over bowties. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: A blend from four estate vineyards, the Deicas family seeks to find the perfect expression of Tannat from Uruguay, where each micro terroir contributes unique components to the final blend. This allows the wine to obtain its intense violet color with aromas of fresh figs and quince mixed with floral notes. It displays a juicy palate texture with sweet tannins and a bright, fresh finish.
