Wine Review: This bright ruby wine from Zaca Mesa is made from traditional Rhone grapes. This Mourvedre based blend opens with a fruity raspberry like bouquet with notes of spice. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, soft, balanced, with juicy blackberry flavors with notes of black pepper and black raspberry as well. The finish is dry and subtle. Give this wine a little air to open it up and then serve it with chicken parmigianna or sharp cheddar cheese and crackers. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Each grape adds its own nuance: Grenache adds rich raspberry flavors; Mourvèdre brings notes of blueberry; Syrah, flavors of blackberry and ripe tannins and a touch of Cinsaut’s dusty berry notes. These layers of flavor enable this wine to pair with a wide variety of foods from mushroom pizza to rosemary crusted leg of lamb. You can enjoy this wine now or cellar for the next five to seven years.
