Wine Review: Saving the best wine for last is always a great way to finish. I recently attended a tasting of the 2006 Zind Humbrecht portfolio with Olivier Humbrecht at Grill 23 in Boston. This wine was my favorite of the tasting. It also happened to be the most expensive option as well. This light yellow wine opens with a shy bouquet. But once on the palate, this medium bodied wine awakens to present wonderfully sweet lemon like flavors. It is also balanced, rich, and concentrated. The finish is refreshing, elegant, and very pleasing. This wine would be a wonderful finishing dessert wine with sharp cheeses and sliced granny smith apples. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: The nose already shows glorious ripe Riesling aromas. Everything is fresh in this wine, and I expect it to mature very slowly. The high acidity and lower/normal alcohol level make the wine taste harmonious and elegant. It develops fragrant honey, citrus, dandelions aromas. The finish is long, based on a vivacious acidity and good salty minerality.
