Wine Review: This wine will appeal to those of you that like Old World styled Spanish wines from Rioja. This very dark purple wine opens with a musty, oaky, and barnyard like bouquet. On the palate, the cherry and vanilla fruit flavors are greatly influenced by the strong presence of oak. This wine has a round and juicy mouthfeel with some acidity. I would pair this wine with beef stew or beef bourguignon over egg noodles. The finish is dry and lingers for some time. If you like oak influenced red wines, this one is for you. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: From six select Mencía plots, all over 80 years of age including some ungrafted vines. Malolactic fermentation took place in new American oak followed by 15 months‚Äö aging in new French oak. Pure concentration and oak/mineral spice retains elegance and focus, a wine of great intensity, personality and breed with a long future.
