Wine Review: This opaque and dark purple colored Zinfandel is one of the best Zins that I have covered so far this year. It opens with an attractive blueberry and blackberry bouquet with hints of spice and oak. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, well balanced, and rich. The flavor profile is a very tasty ripe blackberry with notes of boysenberry jam. The finish is dry and its lush fruit flavors and touch of oak linger for quite sometime after the wine is gone. I really enjoyed this Zin and would serve it with braised short ribs or gumbo with chicken. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: The 2008 Gilsson's sweet, young, berryish fruit aromas show both lots of immediate appeal and plenty of depth. Upon entry, the flavors are much like the nose, with forward blackberry fruit that gives substance to the frontal impressions, along with creamy oak. Well-structured and fairly weighty on the palate, this youngster could use another year or more to bring the only mildly hot finish into full balance. Few red wines succeed as well as Zinfandel with hearty vegetable dishes, especially grilled vegetables and stuffed eggplant.
