Wine Review: This Carol Shelton Zinfandel is named in honor of Charlie Piazza who has spent decades cultivating Zin in Lodi. This Zin is brick red in color and full bodied. The bouquet is inviting with blackberry, cedar, leather aromas along with hints of herbs. I enjoyed this wine and thought it was food friendly. The palate was smooth and juicy with black cherry flavors. I also detected hints of black olives, milk chocolate with nicely balanced tannins. The finish was dry and the tannins drifted away nicely. Though the label recommends pairing this Old Vine Zin with S'mores, I thought it nicely complemented the filet mignon that I grilled for dinner! - Joe

Winemaker Notes: Zippy Bing cherry pie in a graham cracker crust, creamy Hershey's milk chocolate and a bit of toasted marshmallow—not sweet but soft and round - balanced by juicy acidity, with a creamy caramello oak and a long cherry finish. S’mores with cherry jam!
